Great Ladies in History: Beatrice Cenci

Beatrice Cenci was a legendary woman in the Roman history. In those days of aristocracy, she was a symbol of resistance for normal Roman people.

She was born on 2nd February 1577 in Rome (Italy). Her father, Francesco Cenci, was in high position in the king’s palace and used to take active part in the administration. But he used to behave cruelly with the family members. Even though people knew it very well, but the king did not bother to take into account his cruel behavior.

One day her father attempted to commit rape on her, but she escaped and she immediately brought it to the notice of the king. But he king did not take any action against Francesco. Her father got angry with her and kept her in the house arrest and made her suffer miserably.

As she was unable to bear with that torture, she killed her father one day. The king ordered her to appear before the judiciary and Pope Clement awarded her with death sentence. She was beheaded on 11th September 1599, at the age of 22 years.

She is still remembered for historic act. People are paying homage to her in the entire Europe continent, for her commitment to the human (moral) values and also as a lady who was subjected to the injustice.
