 5 Interesting Historical facts: 1. Alexander the Great: He was the ruler of “Macedonian kingdom”. He invaded India in the year 327 B.C. At that time, the king “Ambi”, the ruler of “Takshasila kingdom”, surrendered to Alexander, without offering any resistance. It indicates his weak mentality and he was king only for the namesake. King Purushottam: He was ruling the area between the rivers, namely – Jhelum and Cheenab and who fought bravely against Alexander and lost the battle. Even though, he was defeated in the battle, Alexander praised the king, for his braveness shown in the battle and offered the title “Porus” to that brave king of Takshasila. Death of Alexander: He died in a place, called “Babylonia”, in the year 324 B.C. It was said that he died of “serious illness (probably due to Malaria fever)”. 2. Gautama Buddha and Buddhism: He was born in the year 6th B.C. and belonged to “Sakya” community. The capital of the Sakya kings was “Kapilavasthu”. He meditated for forty days under the peepul (papal) tree, at a place called “Gaya” and attained enlightenment and established “Buddhism”. He first gave his religious speech at a place called “Saranath”. The sacred religious books of Buddhism are called “Thripithakhas”, which contain the teachings of Buddha. Buddha’s main teaching is on observation and practice of “non-violence”. “Ajathasatru”, the Magadha king became the disciple of Buddha. It was known in the history that this Magadha king was responsible for the death of his father “Bimbisara”, who was kept in prison and not provided with food and so, the poor father-king died of starvation. 3.
